Preliminary study of the use of online games among university students with and without disabilities

Título: Preliminary study of the use of online games among university students with and without disabilities Autor/es: Suriá Martínez, Raquel; Villegas-Castrillo, Esther; López-Sánchez, Carmen; Carretón-Ballester, Carmen; García-Castillo, Fernando Resumen: This research is part of a project funded by the Ministry of Consumption (2023) and aims to ascertain the prevalence of gambling and betting, its abuse and addiction among university students at the University of Alicante, both with and without disabilities. Furthermore, the study aims to ascertain their perceptions of risky behaviours in online gambling and betting. A total of 370 students participated in the study by completing a questionnaire. The findings indicated that students do not engage in gambling frequently, with a greater gambling habit observed among the group with disabilities. It would be beneficial for the university to provide counselling and support services that are specifically designed to prevent gambling problems.; Esta investigación forma parte de un proyecto concedido por el Ministerio de Consumo (2023) y está dirigida a conocer el grado de uso, abuso o adicción que tiene la población de estudiantes universitarios de la universidad de Alicante con y sin discapacidad, así como explorar la percepción de sus comportamientos de riesgo en el juego y apuestas online. 370 estudiantes colaboraron cumplimentando un cuestionario. Los resultados indicaron que los estudiantes no juegan con mucha asiduidad, observándose mayor hábito de juego el grupo con discapacidad. Sería interesante que la universidad ofreciera asesoramiento y apoyo diseñados para prevenir problemas de juego.
